The original von Germann watercolors, some 22 in all, were created between 1777-1782 by Captain Friedrich Konstantin von Germann.  He served with the Hessen-Hanau Regiment Erbprinz, which surrendered at Saratoga with Burgoyne's army in October 1777.   These watercolors depict the uniforms and accoutrements of several British and German regiments and other associated figures he made contact with during the campaign,  Captain von Germann created the original watercolors from personal knowledge and observations of the subjects, most likely while he was a prisoner of war with the Convention Army.   In 1852, contemporary artists prepared faithful copies for the Braunschweig archives in Germany and returned the originals to their owner.  Volume I contains the British Regiments - 20th, 21st, 24th, 33rd, 47th, and 62nd Regiments of Foot plus the Royal Highland Emigrants, Royal Artillery, British Soldier in Winter Dress along with the American Officer and American (enlisted) Soldier.  Volume II contains German regiments - Braunschweig Regiments Prinz Friedrick, von Specht, Riedesel, Rhetz along with the Braunschweig Jager Corps, Light Infantry Battalion and Dragoon Regiment with the Hessen-Hanau Regiment Erbprinz, Jager Corps, German Artillery and French Canadian Farmer.   All 22 of the archived 3 x 5 watercolors have been painstakingly reproduced on very high quality acid free art stock.  They have been upsized to an 8 x 10 format to enhance detail and provide prints suitable for framing, reference or research.  A vital addition to the period  historical community.
